Bishop D.L. Jones

D.L. Jones is a product of Central Texas.  He was born in Bartlett, Texas, to the late Elder Tom Elree Jones and Missionary Narvel Davis Jones, the fourth of six siblings.  He was reared in a loving and supportive environment, attending Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, where he was active in the Sunshine Band and the Purity Class.  He recalls that he felt a call to the ministry when he was seven years old, so he went to live with his grandfather, Father Robert Davis, who pioneered many Churches of God in Christ in the area.  In discussing his early call to the ministry with his mother, she informed him that she felt he was called as early as age three, when he stated to her:  “Mom, when I get to be a grown man, I want to tear down all these ragged churches and build a big church, where all races of people can come.”  Well, some 65 years later, God has fulfilled this dream.  In 1991, he was ordained as bishop of The Living Gospel Fellowship, succeeding the late Bishop P.H. Jefferson. Bishop D.L. Jones oversees 16 churches across the United States and in Barbados, six of which he pioneered. He opened his first church in September 1975 and began establishing churches from the ground when he moved to Houma, Louisiana in August 1985.

God’s mighty hand has been over Bishop Jones’ life, taking him through high school, where he graduated as salutatorian of his class, the military, where he served four years in the U.S. Navy, then on to college, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology, completed course work for a Masters in Behavioral Science, and earned an MBA degree from UCLA.  It was in college where he met his wife of 41 years, Sis. Alyce Jones.  They are the proud parents of two daughters, Deborah and April, both of whom work faithfully in the church in the ministry of music.

In 2009, Bishop formally gave up pastoring and moved from Los Angeles, where he had pastored for 18 years.  In Austin he mentored young men who have a desire to pastor.  In July 2011, he moved to Lancaster, California, where he assigned another young minister to work.  His work moved him to Longview, Texas in March 2013 and to Monroe, Louisiana in February 2015.  In working to fulfill the call that God has placed on his life, he has moved a total of six (6) times. Despite handicaps in his body, Bishop Jones is determined to finish his course with joy.
